"Why Your LinkedIn Headline Matters More Than Your Resume"

📅 10 Dec 2025 ⏱ 2 min read

Your LinkedIn headline is 220 characters that most people completely waste. They just put their job title and company name. That’s a mistake.

Recruiters search LinkedIn using keywords. If your headline says “Marketing Manager at ABC Company,” you won’t show up when someone searches for “digital marketing specialist” or “growth marketer.”

I’ve seen thousands of profiles. The ones that get noticed do something different.

What a good headline looks like:

It answers three questions: What do you do? Who do you help? What results do you get?

Bad example: “Accountant at XYZ Firm”

Good example: “Senior Accountant | Helping SMEs Save $50K+ in Tax | CPA | Xero & MYOB Expert”

A simple formula:

Role + Who You Help + Key Skills + Something Different About You

Like this: “Software Engineer | Building Scalable SaaS Products | Python, AWS | 3x Startup Experience”

Why should you care:

Profiles with strong headlines get 40% more views. Recruiters spend about 6 seconds looking at a profile before they decide to click or move on. Your headline is often the only thing they read.

Do this today:

Open LinkedIn. Look at your headline. Does it tell people what problems you solve? Does it have words recruiters actually search for?

If not, change it now. This one thing can completely change your job search.
